TACA Airlines is now offering a direct flight between Lima, Peru and Havana, Cuba. The direct flight will be three times a week. TACA used to connect the two cities through San Jose, Costa Rica in their flights. Executives at TACA say that South America will benefit from this route as travelers can arrive to Cuba on time and without having to stop anymore for their convenience.

Peru has passed a law which would allow foreigners who have been convicted of crimes in Peru to serve their sentences in their home countries. Most of these foreigners in Peruvian prisons are serving sentences for drug trafficking. There are over a thousand of such prisoners in Peru and the majority of these prisoners come from Europe.

It was one of the top performing economies of 2008, but the international financial crisis is already slowing down the output from Peruvian businesses. A Dutch citizen headed for Paris and a Lebanese citizen on route to Damascus were detained and arrested after finding cocaine in their luggage. Alexandro Bellini attempted to row from Peru to Sydney alone. However, as he neared complete exhaustion he was able to contact his wife and say that he was nearing exhaustion. She contacted water police officers who were able to rescue him. He is in good conditions, but exhausted.
