Arequipa Downtown | Peru Luxury Packages: Inca Heartland | Peru Luxury Tour | Peru Vacations | Peru Travel | Peru Luxury Travel

Day 1: Arrival to Arequipa & City Tour

  • Upon arrival, you will be collected at the Arequipa airport and taken in a private transfer to your luxurious Arequipa hotel where you will be able to rest and take some time to acclimatize to the altitude.
  • Once fully rested, you will be met by a Peru Luxury Travel guide in the afternoon who will take you on a private tour of the main attractions of this expanding city. With most buildings made out of sillar, a white local volcanic lava rock, and a unique cultural and architectural integration of both European and native characteristics the historic center of Arequipa, known as the White City, is truly magical.
  • Starting at the main square, you will visit the town hall and the neo-classical Cathedral, the two most visited ashlar constructions. You will then be taken through the old colonial housing area where you will see some of the famous casas or mansions, many of which are intricately decorated with Baroque façades.  This exciting tour will also take you to the bustling local market to mingle with locals as they do their daily shopping.
  • After the tour, you are free to keep exploring the city on your own. We highly recommend visiting the fascinating Santa Catalina Convent. Climb the stairs to the roof deck of the monastery where you will find an incredible panorama of the cityscape with the backdrop of El Misti, the snow-capped volcano that overlooks the city.
  • Spend the evening at your leisure in Arequipa, exploring its lovely streets and tasting the exquisite Ariquipeñan gastronomy, celebrated throughout the country.

Colca Canyon | Peru Luxury Packages: Inca Heartland | Peru Luxury Tour | Peru Vacations | Peru Travel | Peru Luxury Travel

Day 2: Colca Canyon Tour

  • After an early breakfast, your private guide will collect you at your hotel for the scenic drive to the Colca Canyon. The journey will allow you to catch your first glimpse of the wild and serene beauty that makes this area so spectacular.
  • The road climbs to the Reserva Nacional de Salinas y Aguada Blanca where wild vicuñas roam the pampa, before meandering past sculpted, wind-swept cliffs revealing layers of colorful rock strata. As you pass through Patapampa, the highest pass on this journey, look for rare flora and fauna that live at this high altitude. Viscachas, small rodents similar to rabbits, dart between artful stone cairns, and strange brain-like plants called yapats flourish around the boulders that lay strewn across this seemingly barren landscape.
  • From this unusual scenery you will begin the steady decline to the valley below, enjoying views of pre-Inca agricultural terraces before reaching the town of Chivay.  Once you arrive to your luxury hotel in Colca Canyon, you will have the afternoon free to relax in the natural hot springs and rest at your hotel nestled amidst this picturesque scenery.

Day 3: Colca Canyon Tour & Arrival to Puno

  • Your guide will greet you after breakfast and take you to Mirador Cruz del Condor, one of the best viewpoints of this deep canyon and home to the famed condors that soar gracefully in the wind currents of the canyon.   The road leads past picturesque villages and pre-Inca ruins dominated by the glaciers Ampato and Hualca visible in the distance. On clear days you may even see smoke billowing from the active volcano Sabancaya. Once you reach Cruz del Condor, you can stand at the viewpoint and gaze into the canyon’s depths, stretching nearly 4,000 ft below.
  • After further exploration of the Colca Canyon area, you will return to Chivay for a delicious lunch before taking a private transfer to Puno.
  • Puno is at a higher altitude than Cusco so take some time to rest and get acclimatized. Enjoy the evening at your leisure, resting at your hotel or exploring the area around your luxurious Puno hotel, and eating in one of the nearby restaurants.

Day 4: Lake Titicaca Tour - Floating Islands of the Uros & Taquile Island

  • After breakfast you will head out on a full day private tour of Lake Titicaca. This incredible mass of deep blue and green water is the highest navigable lake in the world and is situated at 3,890 meters (12, 379 ft) above sea level. The lake is host to an abundance of wildlife such as flamingos, ducks and many rare species of fish.
  • During your tour you will visit some of the Islands of Uros. There are an estimated 32 populated islands– some friendly to tourists while others are more isolated. The islands themselves are constructed from many layers of 'totora' reeds, an ancient process continued today. They float around Lake Titicaca and are truly a wonder to view. On some of the islands you will be given the chance to pick up some traditional local handicrafts.
  • You will continue on toward the Island of Taquile which is located about 45km from Puno and is full of numerous pre-Inca and Inca ruins. The local islanders still maintain many ancient traditions with their clothing and beautiful handicrafts. Interestingly, on this island it is the men and not the women that have historically woven material. You will be guided around the island to all of the most important sites, such as a museum of traditional costumes, and the ruins at the highest point of the island where you might catch an incredible sunset.
  • After the tour, clients with a deluxe package will return to their lovely hotel in Puno, while those on a luxury package will continue on by boat to stay the night in Casa Andina Private Collection Isla Suasi. Considered one of the finest hotels in the country, this luxury hotel is located on a private island in Lake Titicaca and boasts world class views and terraced gardens.

  • You will return to your hotel in the late afternoon and have the remainder of the day to spend at your leisure, either resting at your hotel, or exploring the city on your own. Try the delicious local cuisine and enjoy the hospitality of the inhabitants of Cusco.

Day 7: Tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas

  • After an early breakfast at your hotel, you will embark on a journey into the famous Sacred Valley of the Incas. As you wind through the Andean mountain tops, you will see echoes of the traditional lifestyles that have remained unchanged for more than 500 years. Many people proudly wear traditional clothing, cook in clay fire ovens and utilize many of the irrigation techniques developed over half a millennia ago. The drive from Cusco is not very long and on the way you will see some typical Andean villages and scenery. Upon descent into the Sacred Valley you will arrive in the area the Inca revered for its lush fertile soils and advanced agricultural methods.
  • You will then drive along the Urubamba River for a short trip to the beautiful town of Pisac. Here you will have the opportunity to visit the lively local market, the largest in the area, and enjoy the beautiful handicrafts on sale. This town also has some very interesting small architectural elements which make this town a gem of the Sacred Valley.
  • Next you will visit the impressive ruins of Ollantaytambo. These magnificent ancient ruins look out as outposts over the valley and offer an incredible view of the entire Valley.  Originally the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti during the Inca Empire, it later served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui in the Inca´s final rebellion against the Spanish.
  • In the evening you will return to your Cusco hotel where you will once again be given the opportunity to spend the evening at your leisure in one of the many fine restaurants or bars available in the area.

  • You will receive a privately guided tour of the fascinating citadel then you will have some time to explore the area or your own or head into town for a late lunch. Puno

Sillustani Tour :

On the outskirts of Puno you will find mysterious pre-Inca ruins called Chullpas (funeral towers). They sit on the windswept altiplano on a peninsula in Lake Umayo at Sillustani. The Colla people, a warrior tribe that spoke Aymara, buried their elite in giant cylindrical tombs, some as tall as 12 meters high (40 ft.). The stonemasonry is exquisite (many archaeologists and historians find them more complex and superior even to Inca engineering) and the structures form quite an impression on such a harsh landscape.

As part of a group tour, roundtrip Puno-Sillustani-Puno*:

Price Per Person $ 199

*Since the Sillustani group tour is an afternoon tour, it may be necessary to book an extra night in Puno. This depends on each individualized itinerary.

Overnight on Lake Titicaca:

Enjoy an overnight stay with an Andean family on the Amantani Island of Lake Titicaca.

Day 1: Your day will begin with an early morning pickup at 8am from your hotel and transfer to the pier where you will board your boat. After a 40 minute boat ride you will reach the man-made reed Islands of Uros. Here you will learn how the ancient Aymara people constructed these islands to escape persecution from Inca soldiers. After learning about their culture and everyday life style, you will board your boat once more and sail towards Amatani Island. Your host family will greet you upon your arrival, who will then take you to your new home for lunch and a short rest. In the late afternoon you will enjoy a tour of the ruins located at the top of the island. From this point you will be able see both Peru’s and Bolivia’s shores of Lake Titicaca. From there you will return to your home for dinner and a short rest before attending the optional party of music and dancing with Amatani residents. There ends your night on the island.

Day 2: Enjoy an early breakfast before you are back on the boat for a two hour trip to Taquile Island. Here you will hike towards the main town for a delicious lunch. Then you will continue on a challenging* hike to the other side of the island where your boat to Puno awaits.

It is important for travelers to remember that while the Amantani Island homestay is a beautiful and well-worth experience, they should be prepared for the most basic of accommodations and meals. The houses of the Amantani people are humble but warm and clean. In some cases, bathrooms are outhouses.

*This part of the tour features many up and downhill stairs. Though not extremely strenuous, the region’s high-altitude may make the journey difficult for some. Therefore this tour might not be appropriate for travelers with walking difficulties and/or senior citizens.
